Body Scan Meditative Gift and May's New Moon Mourning Gathering Invitation

May 27th: We’ll move and process together with special guest vocalist/vagus-nerve-toning enthusiast Kate Smith

Our next somatic new moon mourning & moving gathering is on Tuesday May 27th at 8pm Eastern/ 5pm Pacific.

This month my dear deer friend Kate Smith will join as our gathering’s guest grief-splorer. Kate’s essence always helps me to down regulate and the two of us have collaborated somatically for over thirteen years now.

Sound and movement are essential entry points to processing grief. Kate is a singer and has dreamily taught me about vagus nerve stimulation in a way that felt easy and soul sparking so I asked her if she would come and share some vagus nerve toning exercises with us.

I am going to start sharing yoga nidra’s with you. The body scan audio at the top of this letter is one of the main ingredients of a yoga nidra. A yoga nidra is a way to relax the body and induce alpha and theta brain waves, they say it’s equivalent to a really deep sleep. I’ve been exhausted lately and leaning on this tool… it’s helping… so I wanted to pass this tool along to you too.

I’ll be making these exclusively for this substack email group (you) so please do let me know your preferences by replying to this email in regard to the ideal length for these nidras:

  • i.e. Do you need a quick catharsis and lie down for 10 minutes?

  • or would you like a deeper respite for 30 minutes?

  • or do you need a 5 minute rest treat?


Ingredients of our New Moon Gathering: 1 (or optional 2) hour gathering of *embodied mourning* focussing on limbic resonance and group co-regulation with special guest vocalist Kate Smith:

  • gentle somatic movements to help you invite sensation into the grief portal

  • vagus nerve toning exercises with Kate

  • simple breathing and reconnecting with your body through a body scan

  • and an optional sharing circle for the second hour where you can share about personal or collective grief and how you are feeling in this season and time, (you can bounce before we start this or you can stay and not speak but simply share your presence and listen).
